Phantoms celebrate league title

Cathedral soccer players sure know how to celebrate after scoring goals and after getting victories. They’ve either been watching too much TV or having too much fun.
The Phantoms (20-1-2, 8-0), ranked No. 1 in Southern Section Division 3, wrapped up another league title with a 3-1 win over rival Salesian on Thursday night at Cathedral.
After Brian Cruz gave Salesian an early 1-0 lead, junior Irving Arvizu tied it late in the first half with a spectacular shot into the left part of the goal.
Luis Campos gave Cathedral a 2-1 lead with a header off a free kick. And just before time expired, Luis Cazares scored off an assist from Manuel Garcia, causing him to jump into the air with no one around and fall to the ground by himself.
Salesian twice gave the Phantoms all they could handle, so who knows what will happen if there’s a rematch when the playoffs begin next week. Salesian lost, 2-1, in overtime earlier this season.
