It’s showdown time: Etiwanda at Fairfax in Open Division semifinal

Call it big-boy basketball.
Tuesday night’s Open Division semifinal in the Southern California Regional matches Etiwanda against host Fairfax at 7 p.m.
Get ready for lots of grinding defense. The Eagles, under Coach Dave Kleckner, are prepared to play 32 minutes of relentless man-to-man defense. Can the Lions, under Coach Harvey Kitani, match Etiwanda’s defensive intensity?
It’s going to come down Fairfax being able to make shots with players getting a hand up in their face and the Lions’ ability to rebound on defense against a team with more height.
Both teams are battle tested. Etiwanda knocked off Mater Dei on the road this season. Fairfax defeated a good Orange Lutheran team last week.
The winner will advance to Saturday’s 8 p.m. regional final at The Pyramid in Long Beach against the winner of Wednesday’s other semifinal between Bishop Montgomery and Mater Dei at Redondo.
Tickets are $9 for general admission and $5 for students.
Saturday’s regional finals at The Pyramid will be $18 general admission and $10 for students. The Open and Divisions I and II boys and girls will be played at The Pyramid. Divisions III, IV and V will be at Colony in Ontario. Admission will be $12 and $8, plus a $5 parking fee.
