Statewide transfers are nearing 16,000 for the school year

Statewide athletic transfers submitted by the 10 sports sections in California have reached more than 15,700 this school year, with June figures still to be reported, according to statistics from the California Interscholastic Federation.

That’s more than last year’s reporting period that saw 15,287 transfers and above the 14,918 that transferred during the 2012-13 reporting period.

The Southern Section, the largest section in the state, has had 6,760 transfers reported from last July through May of this year.

Nearly 6,000 of the 15,700 transfers statewide switched schools via a valid change of residence.
