What a summer it has been for sophomore John Schwengel of Santa Monica. He’s becoming a star in beach volleyball.
He and partner Tyler Logan, a senior from Santa Monica, won the AAU Beach Volleyball National Championship in 16U boys last month at Hermosa Beach. He was selected to play for a USA volleyball U17 national training team as a 15-year-old.
He was a second-team all-league choice for Santa Monica during the indoor season as a freshman.
Schwengel also will be part of a new beach volleyball team at Santa Monica that will be coached by his father, Kurt, a former Santa Monica baseball coach.
