IndyCar’s Helio Castroneves spins out on ‘Dancing With the Stars’

Helio Castroneves’ bid for another victory on “Dancing With the Stars” ended Tuesday night when the IndyCar driver and his partner, Chelsie Hightower, were eliminated.
Castroneves, a three-time winner of the Indianapolis 500, was the show’s champion in 2007 and returned as part of this season’s “DWTS” that features past winners and fan favorites.
But the 37-year-old Brazilian and Hightower, his professional dancing partner, struggled from the start and knew they were in trouble last week when they finished among the bottom two couples in judges’ points and viewers’ votes.
Castroneves could take solace from knowing that his elimination drew some boos in the ABC studio. He and Hightower were one of two couples voted off Tuesday night; the other was Drew Lachey and Anna Trebunskaya.
And as The Times’ Allyssa Lee put it, “Helio managed to keep his mega-watt smile, good humor and gratitude on throughout.”
Said Castroneves: “I want to thank my family, Chelsie, and I want to thank America .... I couldn’t be happier.”
