Seahawks backup QB Josh Portis waived after being arrested

Backup quarterback Josh Portis was released by the Seattle Seahawks on Tuesday, the day after news of his arrest for suspicion of driving under the inflence earlier this month became public.
Portis faces a court arraignment next week after his May 5 arrest.
After being pulled over for allegedly driving 80 miles per hour in a 60 mph zone, Portis performed poorly in field sobriety tests and later registered blood-alcohol content of .092% and .078% in breath tests, authorities said. The legal limit in Washington state is .08%.
Portis took part in the Seahawks’ first off-season workout on Monday.
In his second stint with the Seahawks, Portis reportedly signed a two-year contract worth close to $1 million after Seattle traded former backup Matt Flynn to Oakland.
Portis was expected to compete with Jerrod Johnson for the No. 3 quarterback spot behind starter Russell Wilson and new backup Brady Quinn. Neither Portis nor Johnson has any NFL game experience.
