Clippers’ Matt Barnes fined $25,000 by NBA for failing to leave court

The NBA fined Clippers forward Matt Barnes $25,000 for failing to leave the court in a “timely manner” after he was ejected from a game against the Minnesota Timberwolves on Sunday night at Staples Center.
Barnes was called for a flagrant foul two when he tried to block a shot by Kevin Love. The NBA downgraded it to a flagrant one after reviewing the foul.
The play took place with 56.8 seconds left in the third quarter of the Clippers’ overtime victory over the Timberwolves. Barnes had to be restrained by teammates Stephen Jackson and Willie Green from going after referee Marc Davis.
It was the second time this season Barnes has been ejected from a game. He has played in only 10 games this season because of injuries.
Clippers Coach Doc Rivers said after Sunday night’s game that he didn’t think Barnes should have been given a flagrant foul two, but Rivers also is aware of Barnes’ history for getting technical fouls and ejections.
“He’s earned his reputation,” Rivers said after the game.
“Having said that, you’ve still got to do your job,” the coach added of officials. “If you think he did it, he did it. If you don’t, he didn’t. You still have to do what’s required by the rules.”
