Several USC players started a social-media campaign over the weekend to make Clay Helton their coach next season.
“#Helton2016,” offensive lineman Zach Banner tweeted. At least five teammates retweeted the message to their followers.
Several other players -- including cornerback Kevon Seymour, receiver Jalen Greene, linebacker Cameron Smith and tight end Connor Spears -- sent their own tweets using the hashtag.
On Instagram, defensive lineman Kenny Bigelow posted a photo of Helton and wrote: “#Helton2k16 4-0 in the second half thanks to this man right here! #FightOn.”
The Trojans are 4-1 since Helton took over as interim coach. They started the season 3-2 under Steve Sarkisian who was fired on Oct. 12.
USC plays at Oregon on Saturday. The Trojans can win the Pac-12 South division and make a trip to the conference title game in December if they defeat the Ducks and UCLA.
