It’s a too-soon-to-tell progress report on USC after three days of practices, only one in shoulder pads.
For the first time in several years, a roster is needed to distinguish the newcomers, with 26 freshmen and three transfers on the team.
Lines during drills are longer, most noticeably for the defensive line, linebackers and tailbacks -- each group has at least three freshmen competing for a spot.
And, keep in mind, plenty can change before the Trojans open the season Sept. 5 against Arkansas State -- 22 scheduled practices remain.
