Griffith Park night hiking tips

First-timers should start out by hiking with a group or scouting by day to learn some of the park’s 53-mile network of trails; it’s easy to get lost, particularly at night. Note too that the park closes at 10 p.m., so gauge your workout accordingly. For information on Griffith Park, go to https://www.laparks.org/dos/parks/griffithpk/index.htm or call (323) 913-4688.
The Angeles Chapter of the Sierra Club leads free hikes Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays starting at 7 p.m. for different levels of hikers (beginner, moderate, etc.) from the park’s Merry-Go-Round parking lot. For information on hikes, go to the “outings” section of angeles.sierraclub.org or call (213) 387-4287.
The online group MeetUp also leads night hikes in Griffith Park and sends e-mail alerts about times and meeting places. Go to https://www.meetup.com and search on “hiking” or “Griffith Park.”
