Earth Day Festival
When, where: April 16 and 17, Alameda Park
Highlights: This annual event features 250 exhibitors, the Children’s Enchanted Forest, where young people are educated about environmental issues; the Green Shorts Film Festival; and the Green Car Show. Also on April 16, El Presidio de Santa Barbara State Historic Park celebrates Santa Barbara’s 229th birthday.
Cost: Most events are free.

St. Helena Art Week
When, where: April 18-22, various venues
Highlights: The charming town shows off art and wine as part of the monthlong “Napa Valley Arts in April” event. Visitors can attend a centennial birthday party, wine tastings, open galleries, a poetry reading and receptions featuring art curators.

Spring Fever

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.
Gathering of Nations
When, where: April 28-30, University of New Mexico’s Arena (“The Pit”)
Highlights: The Native American powwow features 3,000 indigenous dancers and singers representing about 500 tribes, more than 30 bands and upward of 600 craftspeople selling their works. Highlights include dramatic drumming and dancing competitions and the Miss Indian World pageant.
Cost: $15 a day
