Italy: Fly-and-drive package lets you see Tuscany

The “8-Day Tuscany Fly & Drive” package from Virgin Vacations lets you ramble through Italy’s Tuscany region at your own pace.
You’ll be based in Montecatini, outside Florence. With unlimited mileage on your rental car, you’ll be free to head to Florence; Pisa, with its renowned Leaning Tower; the historic towns of Lucca, Siena and San Gimignano; and other tourist favorites. Or just explore the scenic countryside.
Dates: Frequent departures from Nov. 6 to March 19, 2014.
Price: From $1,459 a person, double occupancy, with round-trip airfare from New York to Pisa. Land-only packages also are available, starting at $449 a person, double occupancy. The price includes six nights’ lodging, daily breakfast, seven-day rental of a manual-transmission economy car and local taxes. Hotel and car upgrades are available at extra cost. The price does not include new Italian city taxes (payable locally), car rental fees of $57 a vehicle, optional car rental insurance, parking and any applicable entrance or tour fees. Other departure cities are available.
