New home sales were up 44.9% in the third quarter of 1984 over the same period the year before in San Diego County, according to Safeco Title Insurance Co.
Sales totaled 3,520, more than 1,100 over the 2,430 purchased in the third quarter of 1983. New homes accounted for 28.71% of the 12,260 transactions, contrasted with 21.57% of the total sales during the third quarter last year, the report revealed.
“This large shift in the percentage of new homes being purchased as compared to resales reflects the greater affordability of new homes and the relative ease in making a new home purchase,” according to Denis V. Rottler, San Diego division manager for the title insurance concern.
