Bechtel Reports Business Boom: The San Francisco-based engineering and construction giant said it signed up $5.4 billion in new projects during 1989, a six-year high and a 21% increase over 1988. Privately held Bechtel Group, which restructured last year, said that revenue performed and billed during 1989 reached $5.1 billion, up 14% from the year before. Bechtel’s revenue from such ongoing projects slid 52% from 1984 through 1988 before rising in 1989.
