Cracks Reported in Compaq Laptops: The cracks are developing along the sides of the LTE and the LTE 286 models, which were introduced in October, 1989. The tiny fractures are the first widespread defect that Compaq has ever experienced on one of its products, a spokeswoman said. Until a cause is found, Compaq has extended the one-year warranty on the computers an extra year, she said. The computers are the largest selling laptops in the notebook-sized category, the spokeswoman said.
