U.S. Labor Secretary Lynn Martin announced Tuesday that a San Diego group will receive the fourth annual Job Training Partnership Act Presidential Award as the nation’s outstanding private industry council.
The San Diego Consortium and Private Industry Council, the joint public and private organization that will receive the award April 11 in Washington D.C., has an agreement with the federal government to train and place low-income youth, adults and laid-off workers in jobs.
The council has placed more than 6,000 youths in summer jobs, according to the Labor Department.
