Philippines Pursuing Westinghouse Suite: The Philippines will ask a New Jersey court to proceed with a $2.2-billion bribery suit against Westinghouse Electric Corp. over a mothballed nuclear power plant. Westinghouse asked that the suit be dismissed. Manila charged in 1988 that Westinghouse and Burns & Roe Enterprises Inc., a New Jersey-based engineering firm, bribed former President Ferdinand Marcos to win a contract for the plant. The government also charged that the plant, near an earthquake fault, is unsafe. The suite seeks to recover the money paid for the plant, which never went on line.
