Teledyne Agrees to Settle Allegations: The firm will pay $5.56 million to settle a whistle-blower’s charges that it failed to properly test an electronic identification system and filed false labor charges. Steve Reddy, a former senior program manager at Teledyne’s Electronic Division in Newbury Park in Ventura County alleged that Teledyne had falsified testing on its APX-109 “friend or foe” electronic identification system used on Air Force and Navy jets. Reddy will receive $869,000 of the settlement under provisions of the False Claims Act that allow a whistle-blower to share in recoveries. The settlement dismisses allegations Reddy made that Teledyne had illegally hired a former Egyptian general to get business with the Egyptian military. However, the dismissal was made under provisions known as “without prejudice,” allowing the government to reopen the case.
