Rockwell International Corp. reported a 22% jump in third-quarter earnings and attributed the increase to its acquisition of Reliance Electric and strong performances in the defense contractor’s commercial businesses.
For the three months ended June 30, the Seal Beach company earned $197 million, or 90 cents a share, up from $165 million, or 74 cents a share, in the same period a year earlier.
Revenue rose to $3.5 billion, up 20%.
Donald R. Beall, chairman and chief executive, attributed the latest results to strong performances in the company’s automation, avionics, telecommunications and automotive component businesses.
Rockwell, NASA’s largest contractor, is also a leading manufacturer of computer modems and printing equipment.
