PIA Merchandising Services Inc.: The Irvine supplier of merchandising services incurred a net loss of $1.2 million, or 19 cents a share for the first quarter, contrasted with net income of $897,000, or 18 cents a share, for the same period a year earlier. Revenue increased 12% to $29.4 million from $26.3 million. The company said the loss for the quarter and expected decline in profitability for the year are due in part to a decline in revenue from syndicated services.
